Captain David Whidden is based in Key West, Florida and travels throughout the Keys to meet with clients. David’s enthusiasm for sailing and love of sea was deeply embedded as a young man when he served as an expedition team member for the famed Biosphere 2 project aboard the R/V Heraclitus. David is an extremely skilled & experienced mariner, USCG 100 ton Master-power & sail, American Sailing Association certified instructor for Keelboat, Coastal cruising, Bareboat cruising, Coastal navigation and Cruising Catamaran and avid PADI Dive Master. He has a particular passion for preserving the old school craft of sailing classic wooden cutters & schooners, equipped with a minimum of modern tackle & gear.
Born & raised in St. Petersburg Florida, David has spent most of his professional career in the boating industry. For ten years he operated a full service yacht maintenance, repair, boatbuilding & rigging company, before moving into Charter & Yacht management and Yacht Sales. Over the years he’s completed countless deliveries of power & sailboats up to 75’ and logged thousands of nautical miles in the Caribbean, Eastern Seaboard, The Gulf and International locales. Captain David is equipped with an incredibly extensive knowledge of both power and sail boat design, construction and systems, which prove a valuable asset assisting his clients in evaluating prospective vessels for sale or purchase, and in working closely with his clients to find just the right yacht to fulfill all their objectives. His personal touch & passion for sailing is truly infectious, and he has parlayed a lifetime of adventure into a livelihood that allows him to convey that enthusiasm to others through his Charter and Teaching engagements.
